Black and Brown Belt promotions were one of the highlights of the camp. Andrew Guidi and Mike Dougherty received their 1st Degree Black Belts, and Skip Berg received his Advanced Brown Belt. The training was intense and everyone did a fantastic job - congratulations to all!

Students ended each training day with a "Yoga For Martial Arts" class taught by Sifu Marjorie Dix.

In July of 2010, HDCK got a face lift with the installation of new mats. These "new" mats are the old Marin Kenpo Karate School Mats. The "Judo Tex" mats have been around since 1968 (with a new cover or two) when the original Close's Kenpo Karate School opened in San Rafael California. The Karate School went through a few name changes (Close's Kenpo, San Rafael Kenpo, Marin Kenpo) during its 40 years in Marin County,

A lot of blood, sweat, and tears have been shed on these mats, and a lot of it was from some of the top Kenpo Black Belts in the country. Thanks to Mike Dougherty for donating the Mats to the High Desert Combat Kenpo Dojo. We will keep the Kenpo spirit alive!

In early June of 2010, my Mom "Bethy" stopped by HDCK to check on my training, and give me a Combat Kenpo tune-up.

On May 21-23, 2010, HDCK had it's first annual Combat Kenpo Training Camp at the beautiful Dobra Zemlja Winery in Amador County California.

It was great to see, and train hard with, all my friends and students. Thanks (again) to Mike Dougherty for being such a great host, and for cooking so many great meals!

The Spirit Camp's official name "Camp Kikas" was taken from Dobra's 2007 Kikas Zinfandel (Dobra style port) which is a personal favorite of mine (for name and taste).

In early May of 2010, my old friend and original Kenpo protege, Mike Bradford, stopped by HDCK for a visit.

Mike and I had a great time catching up with each other's lives and telling old war stories.

High Desert Combat Kenpo Black Belt Test

In September of 2009, HDCK had its first Black Belt Test. Rob Guidi, student of Sifu Phil Des Rosiers survived a long weekend of working out and testing to achieve his long time goal of Black Belt.

It was an honor to have Sifu Terry Neill judging as I put Rob through a grueling test. Rob started his journey in Kenpo over 20 years ago, and it was his goal to have a traditional test in American Kenpo - hence the formal attire.

Congratulations Rob - you left it all on the mat!
